Women’s Track & Field Competes at Day One of AAC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Temple Women's Track & Field program competed admirably at Day 1 of the American Athletic Conference Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in BIrmingham, Alabama on Friday, February 23.
 

 

The Cherry & White saw seven indoor personal records set, as well as four top-10 placements. The highlight of the day was Temple's pole vaulters, who saw two athletes move up the ranks in the program record book.
 

 

Results

  • In the pole vault, three Owls cleared 3.83 meters (12-06.75). Allie Riches led the way, clearing the height on her first try to earn fifth place. Aliza White Vega leaped a career-best 3.83 meters (12-06.75) on her second try to place seventh. Cierra Crane got over the bar on her third attempt, setting a new personal record and placing 10th overall. White Vega and Crane, who both set new personal bests, are now tied as the second best pole vaulters in program history, behind only Riches.
  • In the long jump, Inara Shell leaped 5.74 meters (18-10) to place 13th. Obiamaka Igwenagu scored a distance of 5.34 meters (17-06.25).
  • Elsa Chan set a new personal record in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 16:53.42 to place 11th out of 37 runners.
  • Allyson Metzger had a productive day, setting a new personal record in the 60 meters and coming just shy of a new best in the 200 meters. Metzger clocked in at 7.86 in the 60-meter dash, the fastest time in the event by an Owl this season. She finished at 25.68 in the 200 meters, coming up just .03 seconds shy of a personal record.
  • Jade Pope led the way in the 400 meters, clocking in at 56.32, a new personal record. Chidumga Nkulume also recorded an indoor personal best, coming in at 57.47.

Coming off of the team's performance on Day 1, the Owls will return to the CrossPlex tomorrow morning to conclude the AAC Championships on Day 2 of the competition. The action will begin at 11:30 ET and air on ESPN+.
