Shell Leads Women's Track & Field to Strong Day Two at AAC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Temple Women's Track & Field program concluded the American Athletic Conference Championships with a strong showing on Day 2 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, February 24.
The Cherry & White saw one podium finish and three athletes score points, as well as one new personal record. Inara Shell was the highlight of the day, placing second overall in the triple jump with a near program-best mark — her silver medal marked the highest placement in the event by a Temple athlete since joining the American Athletic Conference.
Results
- Shell had a productive day at the triple jump pit, setting several new personal bests on her way to the podium. She jumped 12.74m (41-09.75) and 12.66m (41-06.5) in the opening round, both of which topped her previous record. In the championship round, Shell leaped 12.85m (42-02) to secure her spot at second place at the conference championships. The distance is just .08 meters off Temple's all-time indoor record in the triple jump set by Tannekee Strachan in 2022.
- Obiamaka Igwenagu also excelled in the triple jump, earning Temple points by way of a fifth-place finish. The senior leaped 12.54m (41-01.75), a mark that is ranked 77th in the Division I Indoor standings this year.
- In the high jump, Amira Green put together a solid outing and cleared 1.69m (5-06.5), a height that was good for fourth-place overall. Nicole Castor jumped 1.59m (5-02.5) to place 13th.
- Elsa Chan clocked in at 9:58.95 in the 3,000 meters, placing 26th out of 61 competitors in the event.
