Women's Tennis to Host Siena College and Villanova University in Home-Opening Weekend

PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's tennis (0-2) will host Siena College (0-2) in its home-opener at the Hecht Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. Less than 24 hours later, the Owls will return to the Hecht Tennis Center to take on the Villanova Wildcats (1-5) at 8 a.m. This marks Temple's first two home matches of the season.
THE OWLS
- The Cherry and White enter the weekend off of a 7-0 loss to Princeton.
- In Temple's season opener, the tandem of Evie Wei/Jessie Zheng achieved a 6-3 victory against the Rams in doubles action.
- As a team, Temple completed an intense fall season, where it played in the Penn Invitational from Sept. 8-10, the Villanova Invitational from Sept. 15-17, the Cissie Leary Invitational from Sept. 22-24, ITA Regionals from Oct. 6-8, the Princeton Invitational from Oct. 13-15, ITA Super-Regionals from Nov. 1-5, and the doubles pair of Samantha Nanere and Maiko Uchijima earned an invitation to the ITA National Fall Championships where they achieved the Round of 8. In November, the pair was ranked No. 20 in National Doubles Rankings.
- Temple finished the 2023 season with a 17-5 overall record, winning all but one match at home.
Scouting Siena
- The Saints head to Philadelphia after falling to Rhode Island, 6-1, and Buffalo, 7-0.
- Siena was chosen third in the MAAC Preseason Polls.
- Laia Giralt, Emma Buggiali, and Manuela Gomez each made the Round of 64 in singles at ITA Northeast Regionals.
Scouting Villanova
- The Wildcats topped Providence and fell to Penn, Delaware, Navy, Lehigh, and Brown to start the season.
- Villanova competed in five invitationals throughout the 2023 fall season.
- At the Villanova Invitational, the Wildcats were swept by the Owls in doubles action, and lost four of six singles matches.
