Golf to Open 2024 Spring Season in Puerto Rico

HUMACAO, P.R. – The Temple Golf team begins their 2024 spring season Sunday in the Palmas del Mar Collegiate. The three-day tournament is hosted by UNC Greensboro and will be held at the 7122-yard par-72 Wyndham Palmas Beach & Golf Resort in Humacao, Puerto Rico. 
 
Scouting the Owls 
  • The team saw a large contribution this spring from sophomore, Aidan Emmerich, who led the Owls in scoring average with a one stroke to par average of 72.1. This included team leading two top-5, four top-10, and five top-20 finishes in the six events he participated in last fall. 
  • Three other Owls participated in all six events from the fall. Sr. Graham Chase (72.7), Jr. Ethan Whitney (73.4), and Jr. Michael Walsh (73.9) all had a scoring average sub-74 and had a combined seven top-20 finishes in the fall. 
  • Junior Joey Morganti is coming off his first career collegiate win at the Big 5 Championship last October. Morganti shot a career best 67 before winning the three-player tiebreaker at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. 
  • The Owls as a team placed top-5 in three of their six tournaments in the fall: the Cornell Fall Invitational (2nd), the Temple Invitational (4th), and the Big 5 Championship (2nd).
 
The Field
  • The Owls will be 1 of 13 teams competing in Humacao. They will compete against Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Michigan, Wofford, Elon, Drexel, Samford, Kennesaw State, High Point, Mercer, Bucknell, and tournament host UNC Greensboro. 
  • This will mark the first time the Owls have played out of the continental United States since joining the American Athletic Conference.
