Miller Delivers Buzzer Beater as Owls Top Roadrunners

SAN ANTONIO Hysier Miller hit a game-winning fadeaway as time expired as the Temple men's basketball team downed the UTSA Rodrunners 84-82 on Sunday afternoon.

With the results of Sunday's games, the Owls begin play in theAmerican Athletic Conference Tournament with a rematch against UTSA in a First Round on Wednesday, March 13. Tipoff from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT.
   
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Miller and Jordan Riley led the Owls in scoring with 16 apiece and topped the team with an identical total of six rebounds. Miller added six assists.
  • Shane Dezonie tallied 15 with four rebounds.
  • Sam Hofman went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, his sixth game this season with three or more three-pointers.
  • Steve Settle III had four blocks in the game, a season-high for a Temple player. As a team, TU had six rejections, its second-highest total of the season.
  • The Owls committed just two turnovers in the contest, a season low and the third lowest total in NCAA Division I this season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the scored tied 82-82 Temple was able to get a stop on the defensive end with Miller pulling in the board. The Owls called timeout with 19.5 seconds left before running their action. As the clock ticked down, Miller drove to the right blocks, turned and hit the game-winning fadeaway as the red lights went on the backboard while the ball was in the air.
  • The game was very evenly matched early on as both teams connected for six field goals while shooting above 46 percent in the first eight minutes. UTSA was able to open a 14-9 lead before Temple went on a 7-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Dezonie to knot the game at 16-16 heading into the second media timeout.
  • Continuing to play at a high level, the Owls committed just one turnover in the opening 20 minutes. A three by Hofman put TU up 31-28 with 5:55 remaining. The Roadrunners started to work the ball inside and got themselves to the line, making nine free throws in the final six minutes of the frame as part of a 17-8 run as UTSA opened a 45-39 lead at the break.
  • The Roadrunners got the early jump in the second half, hitting four of their first five shots, opening a 56-44 lead just three minutes into the frame. The game remained in the 10-12 point range for the majority of the next five minutes before the Owls got hot, delivering on five of their next seven attempts from the floor, including a three-pointer from Settle and two from Matteo Picarelli, slicing the edge to 70-66 with 9:00 left.
  • Continuing the push, Temple made four triples in a five-minute stretch, helping to cut the UTSA lead to a pair at the 3:22 mark. TU came all the way back, tying the game on a layup by Dezonie and then took its first lead in the second stanza on a three from Hofman with 1:50 to go.
