BY THE NUMBERS
- Hysier Miller led the Owls with 19 points and added four assists. His five three-pointers tied a career-high.
- Jordan Riley scored 12.
- Steve Settle III led Temple with eight rebounds. Sam Hofman added seven.
- Jahlil White had nine points in the second half.
- Emmanuel Okpomo had season-highs with five and four rebounds. The two games in his Temple career with the most rebounds have now come against Tulsa. He grabbed eight against the Golden Hurricane on January 10, 2023.
- As a team, TU connected on eight second half treys.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a rough start as after the Owls scored the first two points, Tulsa went on a 16-2 run. Methodically, Temple began to pull its way back into the contest. Riley propelled the comeback, scoring nine of the next 11 points for the Owls. Starting with a Riley trey, TU went on an 8-0 run, pulling to 23-18 with 3:35 remaining in the half.
- A trio of three-pointers from the Golden Hurricane pushed the lead back up to 14. Temple scored the final five points of the frame, all of them at the line, cutting the advantage to 32-23 at the break.
- Tulsa got the jump early in the second stanza before Temple started to heat up, making four shots in a row, three of them from beyond the arc. Continuing to shoot well, the Owls closed the gap to 48-42 on a triple by Settle with 11:19 remaining.
- For each Temple push, the Golden Hurricane seemed to have an answer. Following an old-fashioned three-point play by White that sliced the lead to 51-47, Tulsa quickly sent the lead back to eight.
- Undaunted, the Owls cut the lead to 68-67 with under a minute to go on a Settle trey, but were unable to get the game-tying shot to fall at the buzzer.
