Women's Tennis to Play Away at Penn and William & Mary

PHILADELPHIA- On Friday and Sunday, Temple women's tennis (7-3) will take on its fourth and fifth away matches of the season. First, the Owls will return to the Hamlin Tennis Courts as the away team as they face Penn (11-5) on Friday at noon. Temple will then travel to Williamsburg, Va. to play against William & Mary at 11 a.m. on Sunday. 

THE OWLS
- Although the Owls broke their winning streak against NJIT, the team quickly bounced back and dominated the Drexel Dragons during their last match on March 17. 
- Temple has tallied seven impressive wins this season. The Cherry and White began its string of victories by sweeping Siena College, Villanova University, Norfolk State University, and Howard University in February. The squad began March with wins against Wagner College, FDU, and Drexel University. 
- The tandem of Evie Wei and Jessie Zheng are undefeated in doubles action with a 6-0 record. 
- Seated at No. 31 in doubles play, Maiko Uchijima and Samantha Nanere have also achieved No. 19 and 20 this season. 
- As a team, Temple completed an intense fall season, where it played in the Penn Invitational from Sept. 8-10, the Villanova Invitational from Sept. 15-17, the Cissie Leary Invitational from Sept. 22-24, ITA Regionals from Oct. 6-8, the Princeton Invitational from Oct. 13-15, ITA Super-Regionals from Nov. 1-5, and the doubles pair of Nanere and  Uchijima earned an invitation to the ITA National Fall Championships where they achieved the Round of 8. In November, the pair was ranked No. 20 in National Doubles Rankings. 
- Temple finished the 2023 season with a 17-5 overall record, winning all but one match at home. 

Scouting Penn
- The Quakers stand at an 11-5 mid-season record. 
- Eileen Wang leads Penn in singles with nine wins, while Wang and Esha Velaga lead doubles with four. 
- Penn enters the weekend off of a road win against Stetson, 4-3.

Scouting William & Mary
- The Tribe holds an 8-5 record coming into the third weekend of March. 
- This week, Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week. The duo went 2-0 at the No. 2 spot as W&M ran it win streak to four matches and its win streak against CAA competition to 17 matches.  
- W&M will take on Hofstra on Saturday prior to hosting the Owls on Sunday.
