Men's Crew Sweeps Marietta and Mercyhurst to Claim Michael Quinn Cup

MARIETTA, Ohio - The No. 23 Temple University men's crew team got its spring season off to a strong start, sweeping all five of its races against Marietta and Mercyhurst on Saturday on the Muskingum River.

Opening the day against the Pioneers, the TU Varsity 8+ won the Michael Quinn Cup as the group of Grace Crosby (coxswain), Ryan Spellman (stroke), Kenneth Raynor, Dimitrios Stasinos, Kevin Harvell, Konstantin Kluge, Brandon Van Vuuren, Adam Curran and Pascal Evans (bow) crossed the finish line in Professor Gratson in a time of 5:40.1.

Following that, the 2V8+ also claimed victory. Rowing in Dr. Gavin White, Ryan Brady (coxswain), Patrick Lamb (stroke), Sebastian Rawson, Lukas Wojciechowski, Lars Veckenstedt, Rares Nechita, Fran Bruzek, Brayden MacBride and Ryan Yates (bow) clocked in at 5:49.0. Finishing the sweep of Marietta, the V4+ of Frederick Mehra (coxswain), Skylor Wentzell (stroke), Gavin Anderson, Dean Hargrove and Jack Woodruff (bow) took Silky '87 down the Muskingum in 6:33.1.

After a rest period, the Owls ran the same lineups out against the Lakers and picked up two more victories. The V8+ finished in 5:39.1, besting Mercyhurst by 10 seconds while the 2V8+ was eight second better than the Lakers with its time of 5:40.6.

Temple is back in action next Saturday, March 30 when it travels to Lake Carnegie to square off against Princeton, Georgetown and Drexel.
