3.7.24 | Women's Track and Field

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple Women's Track and Field program competed in eight meets over the winter indoor season, starting on Dec. 2 and ending at the AAC Championship on Feb. 24, where the Owls placed 12th as a team.

Inara Shell was the highlight of the AAC Championships, placing second overall in the triple jump with a near program-best mark, while four other Owls earned points at the championships. Temple saw pole vaulters Cierra Crane and Aliza White Vega climb up the program record book, finishing the season as the second best pole vaulters to ever compete for the Owls — teammate Allie Riches is the only athlete with higher marks in the event.

RECAP

  • The season began at the Youree Spence-Garcia Meet hosted by Saint John's University, and it was highlighted by Allie Riches' eighth career program record in the pole vault (4.10m/13-5.25). Four more Owls shined in the meet by placing first in their respective events: Jade Pope (400m), Nya Browne (60m hurdles), Inara Shell (triple jump) and Obiamaka Igwenagu (long jump).
  • The team continued its season at Lehigh's Fast Times Before Finals meet at the Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Dec. 8. Brown and Shell once again finished in first place for their events for the second consecutive meet. Amira Green joined in on the winning, finishing in first place for the high jump.
  • Temple opened up the 2024 calendar year at the Penn State Challenge. Riches once again placed first in the pole vault, while Cierra Crane notched a fifth-place finish in the same event. Igwenagu held two top-five finishes in both long jump and triple jump.

Reagan Schwartz set a new personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters (17-09). Freshman Emma-Kate Watt ran a personal best in the one mile, clocking in at 5:14.81. Green was also the winner of high jump with a leap of 1.70 meters.
  • The Owls' final week of the regular season was split between the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts and the Big Apple Invitational in Staten Island, New York. Chan highlighted the Valentine Invite, setting a personal record of 17:03.43 in the 5,000 meters. In New York City, Allyson Metzger set a personal record in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.94.
