Golf's Whitney Ties for Eighth at 2024 AAC Championship

BELLEAIRE, Fla. - The Temple Owls golf team finished the final day of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the par 70, Pelican Golf Club in Bellearie, Fla. The Cherry and White shot a 10-over, 290 on Sunday to end in its weekend in T10th place with a 29-over, 869. Ethan Whitney was the lead TU performer over the three-day tournament with a one-under, 209, good for a tie of eighth place.

RECAPPING THE DAY
  • On his way to his third tournament under par this season, the Westminster, Mass. junior Whitney added three birdies on the day, while shooting an even-par, 70, adding his second-straight top 10 performance at the AAC Championships. Whitney was ninth among his competitors on par fours during the three-day event, averaging a 4.03.
  • Senior Graham Chase matched his second round with today's round three score as he shot a two-over, 72 with the help a team-high four birdies. The Charlotte, N.C. native earned Temple's second-best finish on the weekend, tying for 29th overall. Chase tied for the tournament lead with a 4.17 average on par-five holes.
  • Junior Michael Walsh dropped from 32nd on Saturday to 47th following Sunday's third round after shooting a seven-over, 77. Walsh finished the round with a pair of birdies.
  • Junior Joey Morganti and sophomore Aidan Emmerich tied for 53rd overall with 15-over. Morganti shot a three-over, 73, with one par, while Emmerich shot four-over, 74, on Sunday with the help of a pair of birdies. Morganti was amongst the top 20 with 4.33 average on par-five holes.
 
THE FIELD
  • The South Florida Bulls earned the AAC Tournament win, totaling a 12-under, 828. The Bulls bested the field on Sunday by one stroke with a 276, led by individual champion Jake Peacock's 11-under, 199. On Sunday, Peacock was one of six golfers in the field under par. USF's Brock Healy (T6th) and Sam Nicholson (T12) also finished within the top 15.
  • Southern Methodist was the only other team to shoot under par for the weekend with a five-under, 835.
