5.6.24 | Women's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA — The Temple Women's Basketball program added another transfer today, as Head Coach Diane Richardson announced that Towson graduate guard/forward Anissa Rivera will join the 2024-25 roster.
"Anissa Rivera brings competitiveness in the post," Richardson said. "She is very versatile and is a highly skilled rebounder that can pull her game out to the perimeter. Her familiarity with our coaching staff will be a smooth transition."
Rivera is no stranger to Richardson, as the guard played under Tempe's head coach when she was at Towson during the 2021-22 season. The Capitol Heights, Maryland native last played during the 2022-23 season, when she averaged 7.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game. That same season, she played in 32 games and started in 13. Her career night came in a 16-point performance off 75% shooting, along with eight rebounds and three assists, against William & Mary.
The season prior at Towson, Rivera earned All-CAA Preseason Honorable mention and started in 21 out of 32 games played for the Tigers. She led Towson with 7.1 rebounds per game and averaged 10.3 points. Rivera scored in double figures in 15 games and tallied five double-doubles on the season. She set a season-high in scoring with 23 points against Elon and saw a season-high in rebounding with 14 boards against Frostburg State.
Prior to her two seasons at Towson, Rivera played two full seasons at North Carolina Central University, where she stacked her resume with accolades during the 2020-21 season. Rivera earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-MEAC, MEAC Player of the Week two times, and MEAC Defensive Player of the Week four times. She averaged top marks in the MEAC in scoring (16.0), rebounding (10.0), and blocks (3.1).
In her debut season at North Carolina Central, Rivera earned MEAC All-Rookie team and MEAC Rookie of the Week honors five times throughout the season. She started in 18 of 21 games played and averaged 13.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.9 steals, and 1.1 assists per game. She scored a season-high 26 points at North Carolina A&T that season.
