Volleyball Defeats Louisiana in Straight Sets Behind Davenport’s 19 Kills

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Temple volleyball team (4-5) broke a four-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (2-5) in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19. Outside hitter Taylor Davenport led the Owls in kills for the sixth straight match as she recorded a match-high 19 kills.

How it Happened
- Temple middle blocker Alyssa Finister added a season-high eight kills while hitting .636 in the victory
- As a team, the Cherry and White hit .286 while holding the opposition to .142.
- The Owls setter combination of Lexi Yoza and Ava Blascziek combined for 38 assists. Yoza led the team with 23 while Blascziek added 15.
- Louisiana's Lauryn Hill tallied a team-high 14 kills in the loss. The Ragin' Cajun setter duo of Danielle Taix and Megan Hawkins combined for 31 assists.
- Hawkins and Jazmine Gaston added 10 digs apiece for LA.
- In the three sets, the teams battled back and forth, tying the score on 26 occasions and nine lead changes.
Set 1 (TEM 25, LA 23)
- Down 15-13 in the first set, the Owls scored six of the next seven points to take a 19-16 lead by forcing Jaylnn McNeil into three hitting errors.
- Clinging to a one-point lead, 19-18, the Cherry and White scored five of the next seven points to take a commanding 24-20 lead, getting a kill from Finister and a service ace from Olivia Hummel.
- The Columbia, S.C. native Davenport led all players in set one with five kills.
Set 2 (TEM 25, LA 20)
- Louisiana jumped out to its largest lead of the set of 9-6, but Temple turned its fortunes around by scoring six of the next seven points to post a 12-10 lead. During the run, TU got kills from middle blocker Katie Hickey and outside hitters Davenport and Olivia Hummel along with a service ace from graduate student Avery Luoma.
- The Ragin' Cajuns cut into the lead and tied the score late in the set at 16-16, but the Owls didn't take their foot off the gas. Taylor Davenport connected on four kills down the stretch helping the Cherry and White score nine of the final 13 points in the set.
Set 3 (TEM 25, LA 19)
- The Cajuns earned an 8-5 advantage to start the first set with Cami Hicks helped start a 6-0 run as she was a part of back-back-to-back block assists.
- The graduate student Davenport sparked the Owls' comeback with a pair of kills in the midst of a 5-1 rally while tying the score, 10-10.
- Later in the set, with the score knotted at 17-17, but Temple closed out the set by winning eight of the final 10 points. Finister was clutch for the Cherry and White with three kills including her final on match point to seal the victory.
