Volleyball Defeats UNH in Five Sets; Davenport and Yoza with Double-Doubles

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Temple volleyball team improved to 5-5 on Sunday afternoon by defeating the New Hampshire Wildcats on the final day of the Aggie Invitational. Outside hitter Taylor Davenport and setter Lexi Yoza teamed up for a pair of double-doubles. Davenport led the match 27 kills and 15 digs, while Yoza led the Owls with 29 assists and 19 digs.

How it Happened
- Davenport and Yoza earned their second double-doubles in consecutive Sunday matches.
- Owls' graduate students Avery Luoma (17) and Hikialana Kaohelulli (15) combined for 32 digs.
- Temple freshman Christiana Greene earned her first double-digit kills match with 12.
- Owls' setter Ava Blaszciek earned a season-high 24 assists in the win.
- The Wildcats combined for 15 team blocks with Kelly Kauffman leading the match earning nine individual blocks. Kauffman also led the UNH with 14 kills.
Set 1 (UNH 25, TEM 15)
- New Hampshire started the set by winning nine of the first 11 points with help of a pair of assists from Hannah Serbousek and four Temple attack errors.
- Later in the set the Wildcats scores six straight points to increase their lead to 21-7 on the serve of Jessica Shattles.
- New Hampshire held the Owls to a .000 hitting percentage with four team blocks with Jessica Shattles leading the set with six blocks.
Set 2 (TEM 25, UNH 20)
- The Cherry and White held a 11-8 advantage but pulled away, scoring five straight points with the help of pair of kills from the Columbia, S.C. native Davenport.
- The Wildcats cut the lead to 16-12 forcing TU into three straight attack errors and then erased the lead to three points on a couple of occasion but it wasn't enough to overtake the Owls in set two.
- Taylor Davenport led the Owls with 10 kills in set, helping her team tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3 (TEM 25, UNH 19)
- The Owls carried the momentum through the third set taking a quick 3-0 lead including Davenport and Yoza connecting for four kills of their team's first seven points.
- New Hampshire minimized the Owls' quick start by cutting it the lead to 5-4 but that is as close as UNH would be in set three.
- Davenport continued her ascension in the match with nine more kills in the set victory, helping the Owls a .375 hitting percentage.
Set 4 (UNH 25, TEM 23)
- Both teams hit .167 in set four.
- Just like the previous set, the Owls jumped out to a 5-2 lead before UNH scored five of the next six points to tie the score at 6-6.
- TU regained the momentum, extending its lead to four points, 15-11. Davenport (3)and freshman Mickhaila Murray (2) combined for five kills during that push.
- With the help of Rachel Greir's two kills, UNH reeled off six straight points to take a 16-15 advantage.
- Both teams traded the lead on multiple occasions down the stretch in the fourth set but the Wildcats scored five of the final six points to knot match at two sets apiece.
Set 4 (TEM 15, UNH 12)
- For the third consecutive set, Temple took a 5-2 advantage and then 6-3. Davenport had a pair of kills and a block assist with teammate Christiana Greene to start set five.
- Over the next 12 points, the Wildcats tied the score on four occasions, and eventually taking a three point lead of their own. Kauffman and Serbousek combined for three kills to give their team the 12-9 advantage.
- The Owls scored the final six points of the match kills from middle blocker Chelci Banks, back-to-back kills from Greene, one from Davenport, and a service ace from Murray.
