Men's Golf Concludes Rain-Shortened Day One at Ironwood Collegiate Classic

9.30.24 | Men's Golf

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Temple golf team played 18 holes and stands in a tie for 11th place after a rainy first day of the Ironwood Collegiate Classic on Monday. Senior Michael Walsh was the top performer for the Owls, shooting a first-round, three-under-par 69 and is currently tied for seventh individually.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls were scheduled to play 36 holes on the first day of action in North Carolina but, as was the case in their scheduled season opener at N.C. State, weather impacted play. Due to conditions, the second round of the afternoon was canceled.
  • Through 18 holes, Walsh put together an impressive showing, carding four birdies and a single bogey to sit three shots back of the lead heading into the final day of action.
  • Walsh birdied holes No. 1, 3, 7, and 16, with the lone blemish on his day coming at the par-4 6th hole.
  • Classmate Ethan Whitney matched Walsh with a team-high four birdies on his round and closed with a solid one-under par 71.
  • Joey Morganti carded a one-over par 73, while Aidan Emmerich, Jake Naese, and Michael Vital also competed.
  • Florida Atlantic leads the team competition at -12, two shots in front of host East Carolina.
