Davenport, Jones, Yoza With Career Days in Match Against Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Temple volleyball team (3-4) fell to the Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-5) in five sets, 25-27, 25-13, 27-29, 22-25, 15-17 on Sunday to finish out its South Carolina road trip. The trio of Taylor Davenport, Sydney Jones, and Lexi Yoza finished the match with career days with all three players notching double-doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davenport became the first Temple volleyball player since Gabriella Mautiua in 2012 to pick up 30 kills in a match. The graduate student picked up her second-ever double-double with career-highs of 33 kills and 10 digs.
- Jones added her second double-double in as many matches with career-highs of 22 kills and 13 digs. The freshman also added a match-high five service aces with teammate Nalani McBride and PC's Hannah Rowe.
- The sophomore Yoza quarterbacked the duo in Saturday's match ending with career-highs of 53 assists and 20 digs.
- The five-set match ended with 39 tie scores, 29 of which took place in set three, and 19 lead changes.
Set 1 (PC 27, TEM 25)
- The Columbia, S.C. native Davenport had 10 kills on a .368 hitting percentage, helping the Owls hit to the tune of .279.
- Yoza tallied a 15 of her 53 assists during set one.
- PC's Courtney Williams led the Blue Hose' hitters with four kills, helping her squad to a .343 hitting percentage.
- The Blue Hose got out an early 4-3 lead, but Temple turned around the set, rattling off five straight points, taking the lead 8-4 with the back-to-back kills from the freshman Jones.
- In a long stretch in the middle part of set one, the Owls led by five points, 20-15, with Davenport tallying five of her 10 kills in the first set.
- With Temple looking to take the set, Presbyterian broke the Owls' match point at 24-23, tying the score, and then taking its first lead since the score was 4-3 at 25-24. Over the last six points, PC won four, closing out the set with Julia Yurkovich playing a big role with a block assist, a service ace, and a kill.
Set 2 (TEM 25, PC 13)
- Davenport helped the Owls dominate Presbyterian in the second set as she hit .636 while Temple hit .429 as a team.
- On the defensive side, Presbyterian managed to hit just .037. Sophomore transfer Katie Hickey had a two of her five blocks on the afternoon in the set victory.
- Temple used two runs of five or more points to pull out the set win. With the set close at 8-7 TU advantage, Jones unloaded three aces during a 5-0 Temple run. The Owls pulled away on a 7-0 run. Davenport added three of her seven kills during the final push.
Set 3 (PC 29, PC 27)
- Both teams struggled offensively in set three with Temple hitting .170 to Presbyterian's .167 with the help of six Temple blocks. Newcomers Hickey and Christiana Greene led the Cherry and White with two kills apiece.
- With only 12 team kills, Elyse Hutchinson (2), Courtney Williams (4), and Julia Yurkovich (3) hit over .286. Comparably, Davenport had a set-high seven kills in the set loss for Temple.
Set 4 (TEM 25, PC 22)
- Temple forced a fifth set as Davenport and Jones led the charge. Both of TU's outside hitters combined for 13 kills of the team's 25 points.
- With Jones on the service line, Temple extended its one point lead to 10-4 advantage, getting an ace from Jones, and kills from middle blocker Chelci Banks, and the setter Yoza.
- After a Cherry and White timeout, PC tied the score at 16-16, but again it extended its lead, forcing a Blue Hose timeout with the help of back-to-back aces from Nalani McBride.
- Out of the timeout with PC trailing, 19-16, McBride connected with another service ace. PC tallied four consecutive points, tying the score at 20, while getting kills from Yurkovich, Hutchinson, and Hannah Rowe.
- Temple closed out the set on a 5-2 run, including the final two points on kills from Davenport.
Set 4 (PC 17, TEM 15)
- Both teams hit over .300 in the final stanza with; Temple at .348 and Presbyterian at .333, however PC held Davenport just to one kill, but the TU freshman Jones picked up the slack, adding five kills on a .714 hitting percentage. Rowe led the Blue Hose with four kills, hitting .273.
- The Owls continued to the strong defensive play at the net with three total blocks with five players earning a block in the final set.
- The Owls led 8-6 during the change of sides with Jones adding three of her five kills.
- Temple forced Presbyterian into a timeout at 10-7, but PC didn't go away, forcing the Owls into two match points before tying the score 14-14.
- Both teams traded points, but Presbyterian scored the final three points for the set win.
