Women's Tennis Set to Open 2025 Spring Season on the Road

Richmond, Va. - This weekend, Jan. 18 - 19, the Temple women's tennis will be on the road to open its 2025 spring season competing against Appalachian State University and Virginia Commonwealth University at Thalhimer Tennis Center.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- Last season, the Owls demonstrated their dominance on home turf by winning all 9 of their home matches, contributing to an overall record of 9-8.
- At the 2024-2025 fall season, freshman Kelly Richter had a strong showing in the AAC Individual Championships, opening with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win over Memphis' Emily Meyer in the round of 32.
- Sophomore Marianthi Christoforidou and junior Thamara Kawaratani exhibited tenacity and teamwork in doubles play at the AAC Individual Championships, putting up a fierce fight against Tulane's Leigh Van Zyl and Micah Pierce. The duo reached a tightly contested 5-5 tie but ultimately fell short in a hard-fought 8-5 match, showcasing their competitiveness and grit against formidable opponents.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
- Last season, Mountaineers was the No. 5 seed in the UTR NIT Championship.
- During the 2024-2025 fall season, junior students Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Isabela Romanichen made program history, qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships after winning the ITA Conference Masters Championships.
- Savannah Dada-Mascoll has 20 singles wins this season, including a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sun Belt Player of the Year Sofia Johnson in the league final.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH
- Lucy Harper, named associate women's head coach by Head Coach Rifa Kahfiani, joins VCU after two successful seasons at Delaware. There, she helped lead the team to consecutive 20-win seasons and historic achievements, including their first CAA tournament final as the No. 1 overall seed in 2024.
- VCU finished last season with a 14-9 record, excelling at home with a 10-3 record and going 4-4 in away matches.
- During the 2024-2025 fall season, sophomore student Mariam Ibrahim made the finals of the Atlantic 10 Individual Master's Qualifier, highlighting her strong performance.
