Opening Tip
- Temple University men's basketball (12-6, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) puts its three-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night with a road matchup against North Texas (13-4, 4-1 AAC).
- The contest is a battle between two teams at the top of the AAC standings, with the Owls and Mean Green two of four teams with a 4-1 mark in conference play (Memphis, UAB).
- Graduate student guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. was named AAC Player of the Week on Monday, following an impressive 32-point performance in Temple's 80-77 victory over Tulane on Sunday.
- The 32 points were a season high for the 6-2 guard and just one point shy of his career high of 33, set during the 2022-23 season while at New Mexico.
- The Owls bolstered their home record to a perfect 8-0 with the win over the Green Wave, the best start to a home slate since the 2010-11 Temple team went a perfect 14-0 at Liacouras Center.
- In addition to Mashburn Jr.'s exploits, senior guard Shane Dezonie continued his outstanding play of late, finishing with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and two steals in 32 minutes of action.
- The scoring effort marked the seventh straight game Dezonie has scored in double figures off the bench.
- Senior Steve Settle III added 11 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting, and went 1-for-2 from three point range. Settle III is shooting 59.1 percent from deep over his last seven games.
- Similar to Temple, North Texas holds an unblemished record at home this season (9-0 at The Super Pit).
- Defense is the Mean Green's calling card, as they're holding opponents to an AAC-best 58.6 points per game.
- Offensively, Atin Wright is one of two players averaging double figures at 14.1 points per game.
- Brenen Lorient is the top reserve for UNT and is averaging 12.1 points per game while shooting 61.2 percent from the field. He also leads the team with 18 blocked shots.
