Men's Tennis Defeats SJU to Kick Off the Season Strong

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's tennis kicked off the season on a high note this morning, securing a victory over Saint Joseph's University in their opening match. The Owls showcased a strong team effort, claiming the doubles point and delivering key singles victories to clinch a 5-2 triumph.

How It Happen

Temple secured the doubles point with a 2-1 victory. After Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy of SJU defeated Martim Marujo and Adam Kresina 6-3, Temple rebounded with wins from Aayush Bhat and Pranav Nemani (6-3) and Dante Russo and Maj Najvirt Kolaric (6-4) to clinch the doubles point.
Kresina delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Ernesto Ruy, and Alberto Blumenschein followed with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory. Though Santiago Valle of SJU edged out Bhat 6-4, 6-4, Temple stayed ahead with a steady performance.
Russo and Marujo sealed the match for Temple with clutch victories. Russo topped Matthew Dubas 7-6(3), 6-3, while Marujo outlasted Justus Agbo in a dramatic three-set battle, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-4. Despite a late SJU win by Othman Bezzaz over Kolaric, Temple emerged victorious with a 5-2 final score.
