Opening Tip
- Temple concludes its two-game Texas swing on Saturday afternoon with a matchup against UTSA at the Convocation Center.
- The Owls had their three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, as North Texas earned a 76-67 victory in a battle of first-place teams in the American Athletic Conference.
- Sophomore Quante Berry had a career-high 24 points and classmate Zion Stanford added 17 off the bench.
- Temple struggled to get things going offensively against the top defensive team in the AAC, shooting just 35.4 percent from the floor in the game.
- Despite that, the Owls trailed by just four at 55-51 with 5:21 to play but could not get the big defensive stop necessary to get closer.
- Berry has been a catalyst since joining the starting lineup six games ago, and is averaging 14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists over that six-game stretch while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 55.0 percent from three-point range.
- Stanford has also been a spark of late, scoring in double figures in each of the last three games and averaging 12.7 points per game on 51.6 percent from the floor.
- The Owls and Roadrunners squared off three times last season, the first three games of the al-time series between the two schools.
- Temple came away with all three wins, including a 64-61 victory in the opening round of the AAC Tournament in Dallas.
- Shane Dezonie and Zion Stanford each averaged 10.0 points per game over those three wins, with Dezonie shooting 61.1% from the floor.
- The Roadrunners also played North Texas in their most recent game, a 72-57 defeat at home.Â
- UTSA, who comes into the contest with an 8-10 record and 2-4 mark in AAC play, is averaging 78.8 points per game, roughly the same as Temple, to rank fourth in the AAC.
- Defensively, the Roadrunners are 13th in the conference in field goal percentage defense (47.0%), but lead the league in steals (9.7/game).
- Primo Spears, a transfer from Florida State, is averaging 21.1 ppg to lead the team. His points per game average is tied with Jamal Mashburn Jr. for second in the AAC in scoring.
