No. 11 Fencing Looks to Continue Impressive Stretch at Penn State Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 11 Temple Fencing team looks to continue their great start to the dual meet season when they travel across the state to University Park, Pa., to compete in the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Temple will open competition at 8:30 a.m. against Wagner, followed by match ups with North Carolina at 9:45 a.m., No. 7 Penn at 11:00 a.m., No. 4 Princeton at 2:15 p.m., No. 13 Penn State at 3:30 p.m., and conclude the day with No. 3 Columbia at 4:45 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls are coming off an 8-0 performance at the Philadelphia Invitational. Temple secured three victories at home on Friday before wrapping up the weekend in dominant fashion on Sunday at Penn, highlighted by a ranked win over No. 12 Yale.
INDIVIDUALLY AT PHILADELPHIA INVITATIONAL
Individually, Temple finished with a 148-56 bout record during the Philadelphia Invitational.
Freshman foilist Jara Del Cura impressed with a 13-1 record over the two-day meet, posting 3-win sweeps against No. 3 (DIII) Johns Hopkins, Fairleigh Dickinson, Haverford, and Lafayette.
In epee, junior Anne-Mai Melles led the way with a strong 14-4 showing, while senior Cindy Long recorded a 9-2 mark.
Senior sabreist Arwen Gormley made her season debut on Sunday, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record. After missing the first half of the season due to injury, Gormley is set to make a significant impact on the strip moving forward.
UP NEXT
The Owls will hit the road once again, traveling to Illinois to compete in the Northwestern Duals on Sunday, Feb. 2.
