Second-Quarter Penalty Stroke Lifts UConn Past Temple in 1-0 Defensive Battle

PHILADELPHIA – UConn senior forward Julia Bressler scored on a penalty stroke with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter, proving to be the difference in a 1-0 win over the Temple University field hockey team on Friday afternoon at Howarth Field.
The Owls (9-3, 2-2 BIG EAST) look to bounce back Sunday against Lock Haven, while the Huskies (6-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) host Yale in a Sunday showdown.
How It Happened
With just over 10 minutes left in the second frame, Bressler buried a penalty stroke to the left corner, beating diving goalkeeper Alex Lepore for the lone goal of the contest.
Lepore got revenge in the second half, making a critical save off Bressler with 21.7 seconds remaining in the third quarter on another penalty stroke attempt.
