Owls Shut Out Quinnipiac, Improve to 9-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Temple University field hockey team improved to 9-2 on the season with a 3-0 road win over Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon at Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.
The Owls (9-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) now turn their attention to UConn for a 2024 BIG EAST Championship rematch at Howarth Field. The Bobcats (5-5, 0-3 BIG EAST) will close the weekend with a non-conference matchup at Wagner on Sunday.
Scoring for Temple were Lonneke Kerkhof, Kathryn Gauvin and Peyton Rieger. Rieger, Gauvin and Mara Lenting added assists, while goalkeeper Alex Lepore tallied four saves in her third shutout of the 2025 season.
How It Happened
Temple struck early, with Kerkhof registering her first collegiate goal on a penalty corner. Lenting sent the insert, and Kerkhof ripped a shot that found the bottom right corner of the cage.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Owls doubled their lead in the third. Gauvin collected a long pass and finished on her own for her fourth goal of the season with 12:09 remaining in the third.

Quinnipiac pulled its goalkeeper for an extra attacker in the fourth quarter, but Temple capitalized. Gauvin connected with Rieger, who buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season with just over five minutes remaining.

By the Numbers
Temple held a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
Quinnipiac led 7-5 in penalty corners.
With a goal and an assist, Rieger now leads the Owls with six goals, five assists and 17 points this season. The Woolwich, N.J., native has tallied 10 points over the past five games.
Gauvin is tied for second on the team with 10 points, alongside Mathéa Lassalle and Lenting.
Lepore (9-1) lowered her goals-against average to 1.35 and raised her save percentage to .711. She has allowed just five goals over her past seven appearances.
Temple is now 6-3 all-time against Quinnipiac, earning five straight wins since 2021.

Temple is idle until Friday, Oct. 10, when the Owls host UConn in a BIG EAST Championship rematch. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Howarth Field.
