Greene’s Career High Leads Temple to Victory Over Charlotte

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's volleyball (14-11, 4-7 American) defeated Charlotte (15-8, 6-5 American) in four sets to open their split weekend at McGonigle Hall on Friday afternoon. The match featured 31 ties, with sophomore Christiana Greene leading the way with a career-high 24 kills and 26 total points.
SET 1 (Temple 25, Charlotte 21)
Charlotte took an early 5-2 lead before Temple responded with a 4-0 run, fueled by kills and blocks from Alyssa Finister and Olivia Hummel, to go up 6-5.
Greene added a personal 3-0 run to keep the Owls ahead, 12-11.
Hummel sealed the set for Temple with a kill, giving the Owls a 25-21 victory.
SET 2 (Temple 24, Charlotte 26)
Temple opened the second set strong with a 3-0 run, capped by an ace from Leia Harper, the team's first of the match.
The set remained tight with seven ties and four lead changes as Temple held a 15-14 edge midway through.
A Greene kill and a solo block by Katie Hickey sparked a 3-0 run to push the Owls ahead, 21-18, but Charlotte rallied to take the set, 26-24.
SET 3 (Temple 25, Charlotte 18)
The Owls answered back in the third, starting on a 5-1 run that set the tone early.
Temple extended its lead to as many as nine with a balanced attack featuring kills, aces, and blocks from multiple hitters to go up 19-10.
Greene capped the set with a decisive kill to make it 25-18.
SET 4 (Temple 25, Charlotte 18)
The teams traded points early with no lead larger than two at 13-11, until Temple broke through with a 6-0 run that included two kills from Greene, one from Harper, and an ace from Abby Jhun for a 19-14 advantage.
After eleven ties throughout the set, Greene delivered the final kill to secure the match, 25-18.
INSIDE THE BOX
Greene led the Owls in the opening set with seven kills, hitting .417. As a team, Temple hit .278 with just four errors compared to Charlotte's .205 and six errors.
Greene finished with a career-high 24 kills.
Qairo Bentley tallied 19 digs, marking her third straight match in double digits.
