Owls Top Pirates In Four Sets

11.2.25 | Women's Volleyball

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Temple women's volleyball (15-11, 5-7 American) defeated ECU (11-12, 3-9 American) Sunday afternoon at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Graduate student Leia Harper and sophomore Christiana Greene led the Owls offensively with a combined 30 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 25, ECU 19)

The Owls opened the match with blocks from Katie Hickey and Christiana Greene, followed by kills from Leia Harper to take a 7-3 lead. The Pirates responded with a 4-0 run to tie the set at 7-7.
Both teams struggled offensively, hitting under .150 midway through the set, until a 5-0 Temple run fueled by kills from Greene and Harper gave the Owls momentum.
During the run, Temple recorded its second ace of the match, one each by Olivia Hummel and Lexi Yoza.
Greene closed the set with a kill to secure the 25-19 win.

SET 2 (Temple 26, ECU 24)
Harper and Greene picked up where they left off, combining for back-to-back kills to start set two with a 5-2 lead.
Temple extended its lead to six behind strong net play from Greene and Hickey and attacks from Hummel and Harper to go up 13-7.
East Carolina rallied with a 5-0 run after multiple Temple errors, cutting the deficit to one at 16-15.
The Pirates tied the match at 18-18 before kills from Greene and Harper put Temple back on top, 20-18.
Hummel and Greene closed out the set with back-to-back kills to clinch the 26-24 win.

SET 3 (ECU 25, Temple 9)
The Pirates opened set three with a 5-1 run, which was stopped by Hummel's fifth kill of the match to make it 5-2.
ECU pulled away, extending its lead to nine at 16-7, and closed the set 25-9.

SET 4 (Temple 25, ECU 21)
The Owls stayed within one early, trailing 7-6 after Greene's 10th kill of the match.
Back-to-back kills from Greene gave Temple a three-point advantage at 17-14.
Harper and Greene sealed the victory with kills to close out the match, 25-21.

INSIDE THE BOX
At the conclusion of set two, Leia Harper led the Owls in scoring with 10.5 points and 10 kills, hitting .529.
