Temple Edged by UTSA in Tight Five-Set

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's volleyball (15-12, 5-8 American) fell to UTSA (12-12, 5-8 American) in five sets on Friday evening at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas. The offensive duo of outside hitters Christiana Greene and Leia Harper combined for over 30 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 25, UTSA 21)
The Owls opened the match on a 3-0 run with an ace from Leia Harper and a kill from Christiana Greene to lead 4-1.
Temple extended its lead to six after blocks from Katie Hickey and Harper made it 14-8.
UTSA cut the deficit to three before Greene's 3-0 solo run gave Temple its largest lead of the set at 19-12.
Alyssa Finister sealed the set with back-to-back kills for the 25-21 win.
SET 2 (Temple 15, UTSA 25)
Temple trailed by as many as six, forcing an early timeout at 11-5.
The Owls responded with a 4-0 run to trim the lead to 11-9, but UTSA regained control, extending its lead to 17-11.
The Roadrunners pulled away to take the second set, 25-15.
SET 3 (Temple 18, UTSA 25)
Greene recorded her 10th kill of the match, cutting the deficit to 14-11.
Temple rallied to tie the set at 15-15 behind a Finister kill and block, but UTSA answered with nine straight points to close out the set, 25-18.
SET 4 (Temple 25, UTSA 21)
A 4-0 run fueled by a Finister kill gave the Owls an 11-6 advantage.
Temple maintained control with its largest lead at 19-14.
Hummel, Greene, and Harper each contributed a late kill to secure the fourth set, 25-21.
SET 5 (UTSA 15, Temple 12)
The decisive set featured six ties by the halfway point at 8-8, with both teams trading 3-0 runs.
Despite a strong push, the Owls fell just short, 15-12.

Temple had just one error in set one, hitting .317 with 14 kills, led by Harper with five.
Claudia Rivera recorded her first ace of the season in the fourth set.
Qairo Bentley matched her career high with 27 digs.
Lexi Yoza tallied 36 assists, matching her season high.
