Owls Storm Back to Defeat Howard in Five Sets

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's volleyball (16-13, 5-9 American) battled back for a reverse sweep over Howard (15-10, 9-4 MEAC) in five sets on Wednesday evening at McGonigle Hall. Christiana Greene led the offense with 19 kills, while Alyssa Finister matched her career-high with 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 22, Howard 25)
By the seventh point of the match, four different Owls had already recorded a kill to take a 7-5 lead.
Temple extended its advantage to 14-9 behind a 3-0 run capped by kills from Daniella Gonzalez Murati and an ace from Lexi Yoza.
Olivia Hummel added the team's third ace of the set to make it 22-20, but Howard rallied late to steal the opening frame, 25-22.
SET 2 (Temple 19, Howard 25)
The Owls struggled to find rhythm early, hitting just .077 and trailing by as many as five, 13-8.
Despite a brief push behind three late kills, Temple fell 25-19 to head into the break down two sets to none.
SET 3 (Temple 25, Howard 16)
Temple flipped the momentum in the third, using a 4-0 run led by Finister's two blocks to go up 14-9.
The Owls stayed in control the rest of the way, with Finister and Jaya Moore each contributing three points in the 25-16 win.
SET 4 (Temple 25, Howard 18)
Temple opened strong, taking a 5-2 lead with three kills and an ace.
After falling behind 8-4, the Owls responded with a 6-0 run, powered by three kills from Hummel to take a 13-10 lead.
Finister added back-to-back kills as Temple closed out the frame on a 6-2 run to win 25-18 and force a decisive fifth set.
SET 5 (Temple 15, Howard 11)
The Owls carried their momentum into the final frame, jumping out to a 4-1 lead behind a mix of aces, kills, and blocks.
Howard closed the gap to two at 9-7, but back-to-back kills from Leia Harper and Finister kept Temple in control.
Greene sealed the comeback with her 19th kill of the night to secure the 15-11 victory.

Jaya Moore tallied a career-high five blocks.
