Temple to Host #24 Tulane on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA - Temple will play its final home game of the 2025 season against the #24 Tulane Green Wave in an American Conference showdown. The contest will be broadcast on ESPNU and kickoff is set for 3:45 pm. Temple will honor its 27 of its graduating seniors prior to kickoff.

LAST TIME OUT

Temple and Army squared off the last time the Owls hit the field and it was a low scoring, defensive affair in which the Black Knights came out on top 14-13. The game started off on offense for the Owls and quarterback Evan Simon did a good job of getting into a rhythm. After a first-play incompletion, Temple marched down the field for three-straight first downs. Once onto Army's side of the field the drive stalled out and set up punter Dante Atton with a chance to pin Army deep, and he did just that. Atton, the Week 10 Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, hit a 42-yard punt that ended up at the Army one-yard line. Army's first offensive drive of the day finished in similar fashion to Temple's by punting it back to the opposition. The Owls got within kicker Carl Hardin's range on the following offensive drive, but the redshirt-sophomore was a bit off the mark from 45-yards out and the game remained scoreless.

Army got the ball back with four minutes remaining in the first quarter and proceeded to have a prototypical Army offensive drive. The 11-play, 73-yard drive lasted 7:49 and finished with Jake Rendina punching it into the end zone from seven-yards out to give the home squad the 7-0 lead. Temple responded, however, in a very Army-like way. The Owls scored an equalizing touchdown on a 13-play 75-yard drive that also consumed more than seven minutes of the clock. Simon and wide receiver Colin Chase connected multiple times on the drive and ultimately for the score. On fourth-and-two from the Army two-yard line, head coach K.C. Keeler rolled the dice and kept his offense on the field, and it paid off as Simon floated a ball into Chase's arms for the score. Temple's defense would have the stop of the day on the following drive. Army stayed aggressive and went for it on fourth-and-two from the Temple 44-yard line and Jayvant Brown made a big time tackle. Brown diagnosed the play perfectly and burst through the line to tackle quarterback Cale Hellums for the turnover on downs. The Cherry and White did not settle for the stop, the offense wanted to take the lead. Simon was able to be smart with the football considering the limited time on the clock. The Owls were able to gain 47-yards on six plays in just 26 seconds that ended with Hardin knocking a 24-yard field goal through the uprights for the 10-7 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the break the Black Knights got the ball on offense first and once again did what Army does best, run the ball and take significant time off of the clock. On that drive, Temple had a great chance to get the defense off the field on fourth-and-one. Army was in its own territory and took a chance on its quarterback and it paid off. Hellums was able to roll out off of a fake to find Parker Poloskey wide open down field for a 26-yard gain. This conversion extended the drive and was the lone completion for Hellums on the day. Seven plays later, Army scored to take the lead back thanks to a Hellums rushing touchdown to make it 14-10 with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter. Temple's lone drive of the quarter resulted in points, but it was not enough to overcome the lead the Black Knights had. The possession lasted just over six minutes and spanned 68-yards that ended in another Hardin field goal from 31-yards out.

The Temple defense needed a stop on the following Army drive to start the final frame, and that's exactly what happened. After a holding penalty pushed the Black Knights back behind the sticks, the Owl defense pinned its ears back and got pressure on Hellums on the obvious passing situations. This resulted in an Army punt that gave Temple the chance to take the lead back. Unfortunately, however, the Owls did not get any momentum on offense. Temple did not gain a yard on the drive and was forced to punt the ball back to Army with 9:53 left in the game. Army did what Army had done all game and bled the clock out as to not allow the Owls a chance to even get the ball back on offense. Head coach Jeff Monken continually went for it on fourth-and-short to keep the drive alive and it worked as Army maintained possession of the ball until the clock his zero.

TULANE IN 2025

Tulane enters Saturday's contest with a strong record of 8-2 overall and 5-1 in conference. Head coach Jon Summrall has the Green Wave rolling in just his second season at the helm in New Orleans. Tulane started the season off in control, winning its first three games of the season in tough fashion. The Green Wave rattled off two one-score wins at home against South Alabama and Duke before suffering its first loss of the season to No. 11 Ole Miss. Tulane would rebound after that loss again winning three straight games before falling at the hands of the UTSA Roadrunners in San Antonio heading in American Conference play for its second loss of the year. Following that loss Tulane had perhaps its most impressive win of 2025 by going on the road to No. 22 Memphis and topping the Tigers 38-32. Tulane most recently hosted the FAU Owls in New Orleans and won by double-digits in a 35-24 victory.

SERIES HISTORY

Saturday's matchup will be the eighth meeting between the two programs as the series dates back to 1935. The two teams first met on Jan. 1, 1935 in the first-ever Sugar Bowl. Tulane came out on top in that game by a score of 20-14. Temple and Tulane didn't meet again until the 2014 season. Starting in 2014 Temple won four-straight games against the Green Wave. The Owls outscored the opposition 119-34 in those four games. The last two meetings, however, have faired squarely in the direction of Tulane. The two teams met back in 2020 and Temple fell 38-3 in New Orleans. Last season, again in New Orleans, Tulane topped the Owls 52-6 in a lopsided contest. This week's game will be the first meeting in Philadelphia since November of 2019 when Temple won 29-21. Temple has only played Tulane twice at home, but has won both games. The Owls average 39 points over the two games at Lincoln Financial Field against the Green Wave.

UP NEXT

Temple will conclude the 2025 regular season on Black Friday in a matchup with the North Texas Mean Green. The game will be on Friday, Nov. 28 from Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas and will kickoff at 3:30 pm. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and can be heard at OwlSports.com/listen.
