Atton Named Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week
11.4.25 | Football
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Junior punter Dante Atton has been named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for Week 10 in the 2025 college football season.
The Australian punter joins an elite list of punters in the FBS to win this award. Michigan State's Ryan Eckley, Troy's Evan Crenshaw, and Oklahoma's Grayson Miller all rank within the top 10 in the FBS in punting. They sit at first, third, and tenth respectively. Atton has been nominated for the 'Punter of the Week' award in weeks six, eight, nine, and now ten. With his four nominations, Atton sits tied with Massachusetts' Keegan Andrews with the most Ray Guy Award nominations thus far in the 2025 season.
Named for football's premier punter – this award honors the nation's best collegiate punter in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net punting average.
Atton had seven punts totaling 315 yards for an average of 45 yards per punt against East Carolina. The junior had three punts that landed inside the 20-yard line. His longest punt maxed out at 54 yards, and he finished the day with two punts over 50 yards.
Atton has been a key contributor for the Owls, and he is turning heads each and every week. Going into Temple's week four contest against Georgia Tech, head coach Brenty Key made it a point to tell the announcers how much of a weapon Atton is. "The punter [Atton] is the team's most dangerous guy," said Key. Key understood how much variety Atton has to his game. The Owls allow Atton to use direction and spin on the football to pin teams deep and cause chaos on any punt he hits. Atton has pinned the opposing offense within their own 20-yard line 13 times this season through seven games, which is sixth in the American Conference.
