Women's Tennis Gears Up for Road Showdowns with WVU and Toledo

Morgantown, WV - This weekend, February 15 and 16, the Temple women's tennis will hit the road to face West Virginia University on Saturday and the University of Toledo on Sunday. The Owls are gearing up for a competitive weekend, looking to build on their strong performances.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- Temple showcased resilience in singles competing against Howard University, with Irmak Ozturk and Thamara Kawaratani grinding out tough wins, while Martyna Mackiewicz delivered a commanding straight-set victory. Â
- Despite a tight three-set loss for Maria Martinez, the Owls remained in control throughout the match, demonstrating their ability to compete in high-pressure situations. Â
- Marianthi Christoforidou and Aditi Vaidya were both in strong positions before their matches went unfinished, sealing Temple's overall dominant performance.
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
- WVU ended a four-match losing streak with a 4-2 win over Cleveland State and a 4-0 victory against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. After winning the doubles point, WVU was led by Julie Bousseau's 6-4, 7-5 singles victory. Freshmen Lyla Byers and Laura Villanueva Morillo sealed the Cleveland State win, with Byers dominating 6-2, 6-2 and Villanueva Morillo clinching 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Against Mount St. Mary's, WVU won every single match, with Maja Dodik, Susannah Su, and Villanueva Morillo all securing dominant victories.
SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO
- Toledo women's tennis extended their winning streak to four with a 7-0 sweep over Duquesne in Pittsburgh. The Rockets secured the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3. In singles, Jacklynka Scholten, Jone Ibanez, and Annika Munson each won in straight sets, giving Toledo a 4-0 lead. Audrey Moutama and Catherine Rhegness both won their matches, with Rhegness clinching her victory in a three-set tiebreak. Gaby Rondon completed the sweep with a three-set win on the No. 2 court.
