Opening Tip
- The Owls look to regroup after a four-game skid when they visit Charlotte on Wednesday, Feb. 19 on ESPN+
- Temple fell to Florida Atlantic, 83-81, on Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. The Owls led 75-68 with 3:57 remaining before FAU knocked down four of its final five field goal attempts. The Cherry and White held FAU to a 2-of-21 start from 3-point range, but the Floridian Owls hit their final three 3-pointers to spark a late surge. Temple pulled within one point with five seconds remaining, but FAU ultimately secured the win.
- Steve Settle III, who was named to the Big 5 Honor Roll, led Temple with a game-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor. Over the past week, the DeMatha Catholic graduate averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds with no turnovers in 56 minutes of action against Tulsa and FAU.
- For the past three games, Temple has had five double-figure scorers against Memphis, Tulsa, and FAU, stepping up with AAC-leading scorer Jamal Mashburn Jr. sidelined due to injury in three of the past four contests. Temple has now posted 10 games in 2024-25 with five players recording at least 10 points and is 6-4 in those contests. Since the start of February, Mashburn Jr. (25.5 ppg in two games), Settle III (17.0 ppg), Quante Berry (13.4 ppg), Zion Stanford (11.8 ppg), and Elijah Gray (11.6 ppg) are all averaging double-digit points.
- Jamal Mashburn Jr. is averaging 24.4 points in 10 AAC contests this season, leading the nation in points per game against conference competition (min. five games).
- The Owls and 49ers meet for the second time this season, with Temple earning a thrilling double-overtime win over Charlotte on Jan. 29. Jamal Mashburn Jr. poured in a career-high 34 points, grabbed six rebounds, and distributed three assists in 45 minutes of action. Temple's bench came up big, outscoring Charlotte's non-starters 29-5. Free throw shooting proved to be the difference, with Temple swishing 24-of-27 attempts (88.9%), while Charlotte (26-of-35) shot 74.3% in the dramatic contest inside the Liacouras Center.
- The 49ers enter the contest with consecutive losses to FAU and East Carolina and sit 13th in the AAC standings with a 2-11 league record.
- Nick Graves leads Charlotte with 17 points per game, ranking seventh in the conference. Graves is a versatile scorer and thrives at the free-throw line, ranking second in the AAC and 12th nationally in free throws made. Graves led Charlotte with 26 points and eight assists when the squads met for the first time this season. He is supported by three 49ers averaging between 11.3 and 10.8 points per contest.
- Giancarlo Rosado leads the team in both assists (3.5) and rebounding (4.8).
- Like Temple, Charlotte finds success at the free-throw line, ranking right behind the Owls in free throws made in the AAC.
- The 49ers take care of the ball, leading the AAC and ranking 15th in NCAA Division I with just 9.5 turnovers per game.
- Temple will look to win the rebounding battle, as Charlotte ranks last in the conference and 336th nationally with 31.3 rebounds per game.
