Women's Tennis Set to Host Norfolk State and Long Island This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – This weekend, February 21 and 23, the Owls will host Norfolk State University and Long Island University. Both matches will take place at Buckley Tennis Courts.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- The doubles pair, who have played together since last season, Marianthi Christoforidou and Thamara Kawaratani. They were leading 5-3 at No. 1 when their match against West Virginia University was left unfinished.
- Sophomore Christoforidou won her singles match 6-4, 6-3 against Laura V Morillo, earning Temple's first point against West Virginia.
- In the match against Toledo, freshman Irmak Ozturk fought hard at No. 1 singles, losing 6-4, 6-4, while Nina Andreoni, also a freshman, pushed her opponent to a three-set match at No. 4 before falling in the decider.
SCOUTING NORFOLK STATE
- Norfolk State opened the season with a 6-1 loss to William & Mary, with Sofiya Tsitavets earning the Spartans' lone point with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 2. Tsitavets and Sabina Iurea narrowly lost 7-6 (9-7) in doubles, while Caroline Nicholls took the first set 6-3 against top-seed Hedda Gurholt but lost in a third-set tiebreak. Despite the defeat, Norfolk State showed resilience, especially at the top of the lineup.
SCOUTING LONG ISLAND
- LIU's singles victories against Fairfield University came from Paula Guillen Cerver, Clara Tardivel, Beatriz Verdial, and Jenna Svatos, with all four winning straight sets. However, Ksenia Reznitskaya and Mia Tsoukalas lost in their matches. In doubles, LIU won at No. 1 with Lucia Garrigues and Tsoukalas, but FFD claimed victories at No. 2 and 3 with 6-1 scores.
