No. 8 Fencing Readies for Senior Day, Hosts Temple Invitational on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 8 Temple Fencing team will host six schools on Sunday, February 21, for the 2025 Temple Invitational. The meet will serve as the Owls' Senior Day, where seven Temple fencers will be honored in what is their final regular season meet. The seven seniors are, foilists Constanca Dimas and Anna Novoseltseva; epeeists Caira Blake and Cindy Long; and sabreists Arwen Gormley, Eva Ventura, and Alexandra Weinberg. The Senior Day recognition ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m inside McGonigle Hall.
The Cherry and White will compete in five bouts, starting with No. 15 Penn State at 8:30 a.m. Temple will also face Johns Hopkins, No. 4 Princeton, No. 10 Penn, and St. John's.
With the exception of St. John's, the Owls have already faced the other four teams this season. Temple is 2-2 in those matchups, with victories over Johns Hopkins and Penn State.
LAST TIME OUT
Temple's last dual meet action came at the Beguinet Classic in Durham, N.C. The Owls finished the one-day event 4-1, which included wins over North Carolina and No. 2 Notre Dame.
INDIVIDUALLY AT THE BEGUINET CLASSIC
Individually, Temple finished with a 75-51 bout record during the Beguinet Classic.
Senior Anna Novoseltseva set the tone for the foil squad, securing seven wins and just one loss. Her performance included sweeps over No. 2 Notre Dame (2-0) and North Carolina (3-0).
Sophomore epeeist Lindsey Minor led the epee squad with a 6-1 record, which featured a 2-1 showing against No. 7 Duke.
Senior sabreist Arwen Gormley had her strongest performance since returning from injury, finishing 8-1. Gormley earned 3-0 sweeps over Air Force and Brandeis, and completed a 2-1 performance against No. 7 Duke.

Sunday's meet marks the final regular season competition for the Owls. Postseason action will begin next weekend, Saturday, March 1, at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships, where Temple will aim to top 15 other schools in pursuit of their 29th consecutive NIWFA title.
