No. 8 Fencing Begins Postseason at NIWFA Championships

2.28.25 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 8 Temple Fencing team begins postseason play at the NIWFA Championships on Saturday, March 1. The event, hosted by Drew University, will begin at 9 a.m.

Temple is looking to defend the overall team title, which the Owls have taken home for 28 consecutive seasons. Individual titles will also be given out in foil, epee, and sabre.

LAST TIME OUT
Temple concluded the regular season dual meet schedule last weekend at the Temple Invitational. The Owls finished the day 4-1, which included victories over three USFCA top-15 squads (No. 15 Penn State, No. 10 Penn, No. 13 St. John's). This gave Temple a 33-11 overall team record for the year, the most wins since the 2016-17 season when the Cherry and White went 34-9.

INDIVIDUALLY AT THE TEMPLE INVITATIONAL
Individually, Temple finished with a 65-64 bout record during the Temple Invitational.

Senior Anna Novoseltseva led the foil squad, finishing 7-1. Novoseltseva picked up wins in key spots, including a 2-0 showing against St. John's.

Epeeist Lindsey Minor continued her impressive few weeks, turning in a 10-3 record. The sophomore earned 3-0 sweeps against Johns Hopkins and St. John's.

Senior sabreist Alexandra Weinberg was a standout for the sabre squad, earning six wins (6-4).

LAST YEAR AT THE NIWFA CHAMPIONSHIPS
In addition to Temple's overall team championship, both foilist Anna Novoseltseva and epeeist Margherita Calderaro won their weapon's individual title. Sabreist Lauren Johnson took home a silver medal in sabre, while six Owls were named to first or second team All-NIWFA. Additionally, sabreist Arwen Gormley was named to the NIWFA All-Academic team.

UP NEXT
Following Saturday's meet, Temple will turn their sights to the Mid-Atlantic/South NCAA Regional, hosted by Drew University on March 8. The Owls will look to send the maximum of 12 fencers to the event, which serves as an important day in qualifying for NCAA Championships.
