No. 11 Fencing Set for Saturday’s Beguinet Classic

PHILADELPHIA – No. 11 Temple Fencing heads to Durham, N.C.this weekend to participate in the Beguinet Classic hosted by Duke on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The Owls will face off against five teams on Saturday, starting with North Carolina at 9:15 a.m. Following action against the Tar Heels, Temple will fence against Air Force, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 6 Duke, and Brandeis.
With a 25-9 overall record heading into this weekend's competition, the Owls have already matched last season's total win mark (25-16). The program record for most wins in a season is 34, set during the 2016-17 season (34-9).
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls are coming off a strong 8-3 performance at the Schiller Duals at Northwestern. After a tough start with three consecutive losses, Temple bounced back, closing out the weekend with eight straight wins, including victories over No. 8 Cornell and No. 10 Ohio State.
INDIVIDUALLY AT SCHILLER DUALS
Temple finished with a 177-99 individual bout record during the Penn State Invitational.
Senior foilist Anna Novoseltseva led the way with a dominant 19-4 performance, securing key sweeps over No. 8 Cornell (3-0), No. 10 Ohio State (3-0), and No. 2 Notre Dame (3-0).
Freshman epeeist Victoria Doroshkevich paced her squad with 14 bout wins, including a perfect 3-0 showing against No. 2 Notre Dame.
Sabreist Samantha Nathanson delivered the best performance of her freshman season, also tallying 14 wins over the two-day event.
UP NEXT
Select members of the squad will travel to to Charlotte, N.C. for USA Fencing's Junior Olympics, taking place from Feb. 14-17. Following this, the entirety of the team will return to action the following weekend at the Temple Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 23.
