No. 11 Fencing Displays Strong Performance at Beguinet Classic

DURHAM, N.C. – No. 11 Temple Fencing delivered another impressive performance on Saturday at the Beguinet Classic, hosted by Duke. The Owls finished with a 4-1 record, highlighted by a victory over No. 2 Notre Dame.
Senior Eva Ventura made history, moving into third all-time in Temple sabre wins with 176 career victories, surpassing Kamali Thompson's mark of 175.

MEET SUMMARY
- Temple opened Saturday by defeating North Carolina, 14-13 in the two squad's second matchup of the season. The Owls previously defeated the Tarheels 15-12 on Jan. 17 during the Philadelphia Invitational.
- The next bout of the day pinned Temple against Air Force, where the Cherry and White were able to come away with a commanding 20-7 victory.
- Temple then topped a shorthanded No. 2 Notre Dame, 16-11. This win gave the Owls a sixth USFCA Top-15 win this season.
- The Owls only loss of the day came in a hard-fought 15-12 battle against No. 6 Duke.
- Temple was able to finish the meet on a high note with a 22-5 win over Brandeis.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
- The Owls posted a 75-51 record in individual bouts on Sunday.
- Senior Anna Novoseltseva led the foil squad with a 7-1 record, securing sweeps over North Carolina (3-0) and No. 2 Notre Dame (2-0).
- Sophomore epeeist Lindsey Minor paced her squad with a 6-1 performance.
- Senior Eva Ventura made history in her first bout against Air Force, officially moving into third all-time in Temple sabre wins. Ventura now holds a 45-34 record this season.
- At the top of the Temple sabre wins leaderboard are alums Kerry Plunkett and Maila Hee, who were teammates from 2016-20 and each finished their careers with 235 victories.
