Owls Fall at Home After UMBC Scores Late Goals

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's lacrosse (1-4) fell to UMBC (6-0) 11-9 at Howarth Field on March 1, 2025, despite strong performances from Emily Liberio and Erin King, each scoring three goals.

How It Happened:

UMBC went up 2-0 early in the first quarter following back-to-back goals from Katana Nelson. Goals from Liberio and Sabrina Martin cut the Retrievers' lead, closing out the first quarter at 3-2.
In the second quarter, Liberio, Martin, and King helped the Owls connect on four goals to tie the score after UMBC netted goals in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Lily Caravela and King secured goals to help Temple tie the game at eight after UMBC poured in two more goals.
Heading into the fourth quarter, UMBC got hot, scoring three straight goals after King boosted the Owls to a 9-8 lead with 13:06 on the clock. UMBC's offense kept possession for the last three minutes, closing the game with an 11-9 score.
Liberio and King each scored three goals, while Sabrina Martin added two goals, and Lily Caravela scored one. Liberio's three goals against UMBC marked a new career-high in goals in a game, as well as points, with four. King set a career-high with her hat trick, tying her career-high in points.
Temple had a total of 16 shots on goal, while UMBC registered 29. Goalkeeper Taylor Grollman made 18 saves, tying her career-high, while UMBC's Isabella Fontana saved seven shots.
The Owls recorded 11 ground balls and 10 draw controls, while UMBC had 15 ground balls and 14 draw controls.
