Women's Tennis Set for Weekend Matches Against Penn and Villanova

PHILADELPHIA – This weekend, March 22 and 23, women's tennis will compete in two away matches. The Owls will face the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 1:00 PM, followed by a match up against Villanova on Sunday at noon. The match against Villanova was initially scheduled as a home match but has been moved due to the weather forecast.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 28, taking on Siena College at 2:00 PM. The day will kick off with a grand opening ceremony for the new courts at 11:00 AM.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
- In the match against Drexel, junior Thamara Kawaratani and sophomore Marianthi Christoforidou secured a hard-fought 6-4 doubles victory over Elisa Rigazio and Sofiya Snitko.
- Freshman Kelly Richter delivered a dominant performance in singles, cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win.
- Fellow freshman Irmak Ozturk showed resilience, edging out Rigazio 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4, while Kawaratani battled past Anastasia Kavounov 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 to seal the team victory.
SCOUTING UPENN
- Penn is coming off a hard-fought 5-2 loss to No. 63 Florida International, where the Quakers pushed multiple matches to the limit. Gavriella Smith and Maya Urata delivered dominant straight-set wins in singles, while Esha Velaga and Eileen Wang forced deciding sets before narrowly falling. In doubles, Velaga and Wang secured Penn's lone victory with a 6-3 win at the top spot. The Quakers showed resilience throughout the match, keeping the pressure on FIU until the final points.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
- Villanova is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to Loyola Md., where the Wildcats battled through several three-set singles matches. Olivia Corcoran led the way at No. 1, staging a comeback to win 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, while Maggie Gehrig and Miriam Gondorova also secured singles victories. Gehrig and Maddie Hills claimed the team's lone win in the doubles with a commanding 6-1 performance. The Wildcats showed their ability to fight in tight matches and will look to bounce back in their upcoming contests.
