Men’s Tennis Competes Hard but Falls to St. John’s

QUEENS, NY – Temple battled against St. John's but came up short as the Red Storm claimed the doubles point and secured three singles victories to clinch the match.

How It Happen

In doubles play, the Owls' No. 1 duo of Dante Russo and Pranav Nemani faced a strong challenge from Max Amling and Armando Sotelo, falling 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, Erden Er and Alberto Blumenschein could not gain momentum, dropping their match to Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves, 6-0, as St. John's took the early lead.
In singles action, Marujo took on Amling at the No. 1 position but fell 6-2, 6-3. Nemani fought hard at No. 3 but was defeated by Ignacio Vinas, 6-4, 6-2. Er put up a strong effort in a back-and-forth match at No. 5 but ultimately fell in two tiebreak sets, 7-6(2), 7-6(4), clinching the game for St. John's.
Russo, Bhat, and Blumenschein were all locked in competitive matches before play was stopped, with Bhat even on serve in the second set and Blumenschein trailing in the first.
