Owls Extend Winning Streak to Six with Victory Over Charlotte

3.4.25 | Women's Basketball

CHARLOTTE – In the last regular-season game, Temple women's basketball (19-10, 13-5 AAC) defeated Charlotte (9-20, 4-14 AAC) on Tuesday evening at Dale F. Halton Arena. Tiarra East led Temple to its sixth consecutive win with 18 points, shooting 6-17 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

  • Both teams struggled offensively to begin the first quarter, with the scoreboard seeing its first points from Tarriyonna Gary, who made a layup at the 6:52 mark.
  • Out of the 4:56 media timeout, Anissa Rivera made a jumper, giving the Owls a one-point lead, 4-3.
  • Charlotte responded with six points of its own to close out the first quarter, 9-4.
  • Temple finished the quarter on a 4:43 scoring drought, going 0-10 from the field during that span.

Second Quarter

  • Tristen Taylor nailed an open three 33 seconds into the quarter; Temple trailed by two, 9-7.
  • Charlotte extended its lead to eight, 19-11, with 5:01 remaining in the quarter.
  • East cut the 49ers' lead to five after grabbing a steal and making a layup, 22-17, with 1:23 left to play in the first half. The half closed without another score.

Third Quarter

  • Charlotte's Keanna Rembert scored first to begin the third quarter, 24-17, with 8:48 remaining.
  • Temple scored on three consecutive possessions, trimming Charlotte's lead to three, 28-25, with just over six minutes remaining.
  • Temple went on a 7-0 run and gained a one-point advantage, 34-33, at the 2:25 mark, forcing Charlotte to call a timeout.
  • Temple trailed 39-36 to close out the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

  • Charlotte's Jayla Kelly made a layup to begin the fourth quarter, extending its lead to five, 41-36.
  • Gary reached double digits (10) after she drew a foul and drilled both free throws, cutting the deficit to one, 41-40.
  • East went on a solo 7-0 run, reaching double digits (16) and giving Temple a 47-41 lead at the 5:29 mark. The six-point lead was Temple's largest of the night.
  • Both teams exchanged free throws, keeping the lead within two points with under three minutes to play.
  • Both teams were held without a field goal in the final four minutes.
  • In the fourth quarter, Temple was 15-16 from the free-throw line, while Charlotte was 9-10.
  • The game ended with Temple ahead by six, 60-54.
