No. 8 Fencing Sets Sights on NCAA Regionals

3.7.25 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 8 Temple fencing team is set to travel to Madison, N.J., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday, March 8. The Owls will be represented by the maximum allotment of 12 fencers, each aiming to secure a spot in the NCAA Championships.

Seven of the 12 Owls will be returning to regional competition, while five will be making their debuts. Last season, foilist Anna Novoseltseva placed fifth and earned her third consecutive selection to the NCAA Championships.

Last week, Temple competed at the NIWFA Championships, securing its 29th consecutive team title. Novoseltseva also claimed her fourth straight individual foil championship.

Additionally, the epee and sabre squads won team titles, while the foil squad finished second behind Tufts.

Five other Owls secured top-10 finishes. Epeeist Victoria Doroshkevich placed second in her NIWFA Championship debut, while foilist Constanca Dimas and sabreist Arwen Gormley each finished third in their respective weapons. Epeeist Caira Blake took seventh place, and foilist Natalie Adams-Kim finished eighth.

This weekend's regional competition will be hosted by Drew University at the Simon Forum, with general admission tickets available for $5. Foil and epee events will begin at 9 a.m., followed by sabre at 12 p.m.

The regional championships serve as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 20-23 at Penn State University. NCAA qualification is based on a formula that weighs regional performance at 60% and regular-season results at 40%. Regional champions in each weapon earn automatic bids, while the remaining spots are allocated based on performance and regional standings. The Mid-Atlantic/South Region has seven qualification spots per weapon.

NCAA selections will be announced on Tuesday, March 11. The NCAA Championships will feature the top 24 fencers in each weapon nationwide. At the regional meet, 36 fencers per weapon will compete until 12 remain, with those 12 advancing to a round-robin final.
