PHILADELPHIA - The No. 18 Temple men's crew team saw its top two varsity eight boats go unbeaten at the Schuylkill Invitational on Saturday. The event marked the first of three straight racing weekend for the Owls, who officially began their spring season after three exhibition weekends.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Temple's top varsity boat was set to open racing at 10:50 a.m. against San Diego and Jacksonville, but had an equipment malfunction that caused a delay.
The Owls were undeterred and posted wins over both the Dolphins and the Toreros, who were ranked No. 25 in the IRCA/IRA National Poll last week.
The morning session saw Temple earn two more wins over Jacksonville in the 2V8 and 3V8, while the 4V8 took third behind Navy and Georgetown.
Later in the day, the Owls continued their momentum as the first varsity eight soundly defeated No. 24 Gonzaga and Hobart, who was receiving votes in this week's national poll.
The second varsity eight swept another race with the same foes as the V8, and the 3V8 and 4V8 each showed improvement in their final races of the day.
