PHILADELPHIA Temple University Athletics is saddened by the loss of Hall of Famer Bill Mahoney '68, who passed away recently.

The first-ever All-American in Temple men's cross country history, Mahoney put together a stellar career for the Owls in the mid-1960s. A four-time Middle Atlantic Conference cross country champion, Mahoney capped his career by placing fifth at the NCAA College Division Championships to earn All-America honors.

Arguably the top distance runner in school history, the Cornwell Heights, Pa. native won the MAC two-mile championship three times on the indoor circuit and twice outdoors. He also placed third at the 1966 NCAA College Division Championships in the three-mile run to garner All-America accolades.

A cross country and track captain, Mahoney helped the Owls capture their first MAC Outdoor Track title.  In 2012, he was named to the MAC All-Century Team and was inducted into the Temple University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
Mahoney graduated from Temple University twice with bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration. He would go on to a  33-year career at 3M, where he worked as a Vice President in Human Resources with Global Responsibility.
