PHILADELPHIA - Temple University Athletics and the brand new Temple Tennis Complex has been named a recipient of the 2025 USTA Outstanding Facility Award, it was announced by the organization recently.
Presented by the United States Tennis Association, this national honor recognizes the Complex as an exemplary tennis venue and highlights its ongoing commitment to growing and developing the sport of tennis both on campus and within the surrounding community.
"We are honored to be recognized by the USTA with the 2025 Outstanding Facility Award," said Arthur Johnson, Temple Vice President and Debbie & Stanley Lefkowitz '65 Director of Athletics said. "This recognition is a testament to the collaboration between athletics and recreation sports, led by John Doman, as well as the hard work of Martin Droz and the project delivery group in seeing through the completion of this project."
The award arrives during a transformative period for Temple Tennis, following several significant grants that underscore the University's dedication to inclusive and innovative programming, facility excellence, and community engagement.
Since September, Temple has been the proud recipient of the Collegiate Community Hub Grant, a collaborative initiative from the USTA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). This award supports the university's vision of serving as a "Collegiate Community Hub"—a full-service facility providing playing opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and residents across Philadelphia.
In addition, Temple received a USTA Tennis Venue Services Grant to support the enhancement and accessibility of its tennis facilities. This grant not only provides funding but also connects Temple with the USTA's extensive technical resources and expertise, allowing the university to modernize its venue while further expanding opportunities for play and instruction across diverse populations.
Rounding out the recent support, Temple was awarded a USTA Middle States Build It Forward Grant. This funding directly contributes to resurfacing and construction improvements at the Tennis Complex, reaffirming Temple's role as a vital part of the Philadelphia tennis ecosystem.
