Temple Falls Short in 2-1 Loss to Delaware State

DOVER, Del. — Temple women's soccer (2-3-0) dropped a close road match to Delaware State, 2-1, Thursday night at Drass Field. Forward Shari Atkins scored the Owls' lone goal in the first half.
How It Happened
- Delaware State struck early, opening the scoring in the 1st minute with a goal from Nicole Cargill, assisted by Yazmeen Smith. Just three minutes later, Smith found the net herself, giving the Hornets a quick 2-0 advantage by the 4th minute.
- Temple responded in the 12th minute when Shari Atkins buried a shot to cut the deficit in half. Valentina Bitterwolf was credited with the assist on the play.
- Temple outshot Delaware State 17-9 and dominated corner kicks by an 8-1 margin.
- Goalkeeper Claudia Viau recorded three saves in the first half, while Tamsin Bynoe added two more in relief during the second.
