Gallagher’s Late Goal Lifts Owls Past Central Michigan

8.31.25 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA – After Central Michigan tied the contest with less than three minutes remaining, junior midfielder Riley Gallagher tipped in the game-winning goal off a pass from senior midfielder Agustina Tucceri with just over a minute left to lift the Temple University field hockey team to a 4-3 win over CMU on Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field.

The Owls (2-0) remained undefeated through the opening weekend of the season. The Chippewas (0-2) dropped their first two contests to begin the 2025 campaign.

Lise KorverLucia Magro, Mathéa Lassalle and Gallagher scored for the Owls in the thrilling victory.

How It Happened

After a scoreless first quarter, Korver broke through with 4:25 remaining in the half. Magro fired a shot that was saved, but Lina Neilson collected the rebound mid-air and sent a pass to Korver, who buried her first career goal.

Moments later, Magro forced a turnover in the Temple offensive end, split a pair of defenders and notched her second goal in as many collegiate games to give the Owls a 2-0 lead at halftime.

CMU got on the board in the 38th minute when Mallory Camryn scored the lone goal of the third quarter to cut Temple's lead to 2-1.

Lassale answered early in the fourth, redirecting a pass from Neilson off a CMU defender's stick and into the cage to push the margin back to 3-1.

Camryn responded with two more goals in the final frame, including the equalizer with less than three minutes to play, to complete her hat trick.

The Owls regrouped and capitalized on a late penalty corner. Halle Aschenbach inserted to Neilson, who swung a pass across to Tucceri. Tucceri's feed found Gallagher on the doorstep, and she redirected in the game-winner for her first career goal.

By The Numbers

  • Temple held advantages of 35-13 in shots, 23-10 in shots on goal and 17-6 in penalty corners.
  • Magro leads the Owls with five points (two goals, one assist) through the first two games. Mara Lenting has also scored twice, and seven different Owls have combined for nine goals.
  • CMU's Camryn accounted for all three Chippewa goals.
  • Temple goalkeeper Alex Lepore (2-0) earned her second win, playing all 60 minutes and making seven saves.
  • CMU goalkeepers Ashley Cogger and Jenna Billig (0-1) split time evenly, each making nine saves while allowing two goals.

No Place Like Howarth Field

Temple notched its 13th consecutive regular-season home win at Howarth Field, a streak dating back to Oct. 15, 2023, when the Owls defeated Delaware. The Owls now hold sole possession of the second-longest active home regular-season winning streak nationally. UMass (12) and North Carolina (12) opened 2025 on the road or at neutral sites. Only defending national champion Northwestern (22) has a longer streak.

Up Next

Temple hits the road next weekend, visiting CAA foe Monmouth on Friday at 4 p.m., before closing the weekend at Bucknell on Sunday at noon. The Owls return to Howarth Field on Friday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m. to host Lafayette.
