WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Trailing 4-0 entering the fourth quarter, the Temple University field hockey team rallied for two late goals but ultimately suffered its first loss of the season in a 5-2 setback at Monmouth on Friday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.

The Owls (2-1) look to bounce back Sunday at Bucknell, while the Hawks (3-0) remain unbeaten heading into their matchup with Rider.

Lise Korver and Riley Gallagher each tallied their second goals of the season for Temple.

How It Happened

Monmouth struck first in the 10th minute, as Claire Campen converted off a penalty corner.

The Hawks doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Campen found Alicia Vanderlyde in front of the cage for a 2-0 advantage.

With 6:34 remaining in the first half, Keely Bowers sent a pass into the circle that Lauren Relik redirected into the cage for a 3-0 lead.

Monmouth extended its advantage in the third quarter, as Anna Moors fired a high shot over the goalkeeper with 3:47 left to make it 4-0.

Temple broke through with 9:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. Mara Lenting fed Isabella Pisano, who deflected the ball to Korver for the Owls' first goal.

The Owls cut the deficit to two with 4:23 to play. Off a penalty corner, Halle Aschenbach inserted to Mathéa Lassalle, who set up Agustina Tucceri. Tucceri sent a quick pass to Gallagher, who redirected it into the cage.

Monmouth sealed the win with 1:25 remaining. After goalkeeper Alex Lepore came out of the cage for a stop, Relik sent in her second goal of the day.
