Temple to Host Howard in 2025 Home Opener
9.1.25 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Temple returns home to Lincoln Financial Field for the first home contest of 2025 on Saturday, September 6. The Howard Bison will travel to Philadelphia to face Temple for a 2:00 PM kickoff. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on OwlSports.com/listen.
LAST TIME OUT
The K.C. Keeler era started on a high note as the Owls secured a 42-10 victory at Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. Temple wa strong in all three phases of the game. Quarterback Evan Simon not only set a career-high in passing touchdown (6), but he tied a program record in that same category. Simon finished the day 19-25 for 248 yards and six touchdown passes.
Simon connected with his tight ends early and often in the week one contest. Junior Peter Clarke had a career day after hauling in four catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. His six touchdown passes are double any other player in the American Conference. True freshman tight end Ryder Kusch also got in on the scoring action. The Canadian caught his first career pass for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and followed that up later in the fourth with another scoring grab. This level of success by tight ends in a game has not been seen by a Temple offense since 1976. Ken Williams and Mike Kober each pulled in two touchdowns for the Owls when they faced Penn State.
The ground game was highly effective for Temple in Saturday's win. All-in-all the Owls ran for 195 total yards, and that was done so through seven different ball carriers. Redshirt senior transfer Jay Ducker led the way with 128 yards in his Temple debut. Terrez Worthy ran and received well out of the backfield. The senior ended the night with three catches for 38 yards and one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Owls got stronger as the game went on. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Eric Stuart led the team with six total tackles, two solo and four assists. The Owls finished the day with two sacks on the UMass quarterback, one from Khalil Poteat and one from Cam'Ron Stewart. The defense also won the turnover battle against the Minutemen. A forced fumble by linebacker Katin Surprenant allowed safety Avery Powell to return the ball and set up the Owls for a touchdown. Later in the game cornerback Ben Osueke would cut in front of a route in the end zone to pick the ball off for Temple. The ensuing drive by the Temple offense would also result in points.
HOWARD IN 2025
Howard faced Florida A & M in the 2025 Orange Blossom Classic in Miami, Fla. and came out of there with a come from behind victory. Howard's quarterback Tyriq Starks orchestrated a 10-play, 49-yard drive at the end of the game that would result in the game-winning 43-yard field goal to give the Bison the win.
AN UNFAMILIAR FOE
This week two meeting between the Owls and the Bison will only be the second time ever the teams have faced off. The lone contest came back in 1991 in Philadelphia where Temple ousted Howard 40-0.
UP NEXT
On Saturday, September 13 Temple will play host to the #18 Oklahoma Sooners in week three of the 2025 season. The Sooners topped the Owls in 2024 on the road. The game will be aired on ESPN2 and can be heard on OwlSports.com/listen. The game will kickoff at 12:00 PM.
