Owls’ Winning Streak Snapped by Villanova in 2-0 Loss

PHILADELPHIA – After a scoreless first half, the Temple University field hockey team could not overcome a pair of Villanova goals in the second half in a 2-0 loss to the Wildcats on Friday afternoon at Howarth Field.
The Owls (7-2, 1-1 BIG EAST) had their five-game winning streak snapped by the Wildcats (2-6, 1-1 BIG EAST).
How It Happened
With 4:11 left in the third quarter, Villanova broke through on a penalty corner. Molly Zimmerman inserted to Addie Froehlich, who pushed to Gemma Lysaght. Lysaght fed a pass to the post, where Colleen Finnan redirected it in for the opening score.
The Wildcats added insurance in the fourth quarter on another penalty corner. Zimmerman inserted to Froehlich, whose shot was deflected in by Ava Borkowski to make it 2-0 with 8:17 remaining.
Temple outshot Villanova 6-1 in the final period but could not erase the deficit.
By the Numbers
Temple held a 12-4 advantage in shots, while Villanova led 3-2 in shots on goal.
The Owls also posted a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.
GK Alex Lepore (7-1) took her first loss of the 2025 campaign, finishing with one save. Villanova's Sophie Volkel (2-3) earned the win with two saves.
Temple also saw its 14-game regular-season home winning streak end. The Owls entered the day with the fourth-longest active home streak in the nation.
Despite the setback, Temple continues to lead the all-time series against Villanova, 18-10.

Temple looks to bounce back in non-conference action on Sunday, hosting Richmond at Howarth Field. Game time is set for noon in North Philadelphia.
