Temple Comes From Behind to Take Down Richmond, 3-2

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University field hockey team trailed 2-1 at halftime, but Kathryn Gauvin tallied the equalizer in the third quarter and Agustina Tucceri registered the game-winning goal with 6:27 to play to lift the Owls to a 3-2 victory over Richmond on Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field.
The Owls (8-2, 1-1 BE) bounced back after falling to Villanova on Friday. The Spiders (5-4, 2-0 A10) saw their four-game winning streak snapped.
How It Happened
On a penalty corner, Mathéa Lassalle connected on an insertion from Mara Lenting, putting Temple on the board with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter.

Richmond evened the contest in the 19th minute. A Temple turnover set up Richmond's Lainey Nichols with a shot on goal, as Charly Faherty redirected it into the cage.
The Spiders took the lead late in the second frame. With 2:12 left before halftime, Amy Stripling converted a penalty stroke, despite a diving effort by Alex Lepore, to give Richmond a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Temple tied the contest with 26.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter. After Lenting's initial shot was saved, a scramble for possession ended with Lenting feeding Gauvin for the equalizer.

Off a penalty corner with 6:27 remaining, Peyton Rieger inserted to Tucceri, who ripped home the go-ahead score. It marked the senior's first goal of the season

By the Numbers
Temple held advantages in shots (18-5), shots on goal (8-2) and penalty corners (8-4).
The Owls now trail the all-time series against their former conference foe, 20-4, but have won four straight meetings in Philadelphia (2009, 2011, 2013, 2025).
Lassalle is now tied with Rieger for the team lead with five goals apiece. Rieger continues to pace the squad with 14 points in 10 games.

Temple is idle until Friday, Oct. 10, when the Owls travel to Connecticut to face Quinnipiac in their lone game of the weekend. Start time is set for 1 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
