Owls Fall to #13 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Temple Owls fell for the first time this season at the hands of the #13 Maryland Terrapins this afternoon by a score of 3-1.
The Owls (1-1, 0-0 Big East) head home after a weekend split at the Conference Cup, winning on Friday against JMU and dropping the Sunday afternoon contest to the Terps.

How It Happened
The Maryland offense was relentless to begin the game. The Owls faced five shots in that opening 15 minutes of play and Lepore had two saves to keep it 0-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The Terps opened up the scoring in the second quarter of play. Francisca Eschoyez put Maryland up 1-0 off of a penalty corner three minutes into the second. Aida Ierubino followed that with a goal of her own to extend the lead for Maryland just minutes before halftime.
The Owls held strong throughout the duration of the third quarter and cooled down what seemed to be a red-hot Maryland offense. A Maryland penalty, however, gave Temple its first opportunity to get on the board by way of a penalty stroke. Lucia Magro did not waste the chance, and put the Owls right back in the contest.

The one goal deficit would not last long, however, as the Terps went back up by two goals at the beginning of the final frame. Eschoyez notched her second goal of the contest to add some insurance for the 13th ranked team in the country.
